Lynch Solicitors recently contributed to an Article in the 2015 Irish Farm Machinery & Equipment Yearbook on will-making.
The article looks at the importance of making wills and the extra importance of wills at certain stages of our lives. Farmers in particular should have their affairs in order. We warn that not stating wishes clearly in the will could result in a relative being burdened by extra payment.
I never ceases to surprise us how many people do not have a Will.
Making a will is relatively straight-forward process for most clients.
You decide who you want to look after , how you want to look after them and who you want to manage the process after you go – i.e who are the beneficiaries, what are the gifts and who will be the executors.
If there are children, you need to provide for them both financially and for the day care needs – by appointing guardians and trustees.
Thing get a bit more complicated where a client is self-employed or has assets.

Thank you for sharing the importance about wills and trusts. It depends on what stage in life you are currently, but wills are always significant. Like you said, farmers in particular should have their affairs in order. If you do not state your wishes clearly in the will, it could result in a relative being burdened by extra payment. I would never want to have one of my relatives pay excess money because of my mistakes. Thanks for sharing!
